My Hondo Will Not Eat????

latin1956 Apr 03, 2005 05:04 PM

I have a Adult Female Anery that always ate good, she was eating small rats and after coming out of Brumation she is not eating like my other females. I am feeding her every 4 days but all she might eat is one hopper out of 4. Today I offered 4 rat pinkies and she refused to eat. She is not in shed. I have also offered rat pups but no luck. I was wondering if others are having this problem??? She was 748 grams into brumation and 738 grams after coming out of Brumation. She sure looks healthy and I just weighted her 758 grams. Is this something to worry about??

Thanks

Tom

I would not worry about it at all. When she defecates, note if there's any extra foul odor or discoloration. I often must remind myself that just because most snakes eat a consistent diet of what they seem to prefer, occasionally for reasons unknown they become fussy. I had to switch to live a few times this year, which is far from my preference. However if the snake eats and is in good health it's worth the hassle. Tom Stevens

Thats great news. Today I also fed a few stubborn feeders. One being an 04 Hondo that will only eat a quantity of f/t mice pinkies, anything else f/t and it is one rodent max. I tried live rat pinkies, so much larger in every way and she eats them immediatley. She is part of a future Snow project so rather than watch her fiddle around with f/t mice I will give her what she wants for now and try her on other stuff later in the season. Funniest thing is the rat pinks are so large you would wonder if she could eat one, when the reality sets in after she puts it away and could fit another one or two you can see the potential of a future breeder and it is a great site.
