C. vestigium

Brockn Apr 03, 2005 09:28 PM

Spent a recent afternoon in Anza Borrego Desert State Park east of San Diego. Followed a male Baja California Collared Lizard around as he bounded from rock to rock. This guy didn't seem overly concerned with my presence, as long as I kept my distance...

at the same male C. vestigium. This particular species of Crotaphytus tends to be quite wary and difficult to approach in its natural habitat...

After a couple of hours observing me watch him, this C. vestigium male finally must have concluded that I was no longer a threat...

As soon as he figured out your weren't a threat, you threw a loop around his head and tossed his butt in a sock right? LMAO...just kidding.

Brockn Apr 04, 2005 02:02 PM

and nope, after snapping that last photo I merely thanked the lizard for his time and let him resume basking in peace...

That is a NICE lookin dude!!!!
Did you see many?
Great pictures too!!

You are like Dianne Fossey of the collareds!!

Brockn Apr 04, 2005 02:13 PM

Actually, this lizard was the only collared I observed during my hike on this day. Any sighting of the C. vestigium species is in the wild is a treat in my book, so a very cautious and patient approach once encountered is often well worth the effort...
