please can anyone help me?

Hello everyone,

I'm kinda new to monitors but I have 8 years experience with many other lizards and snakes including tokay geckos. I have always wanted to get a monitor lizard because the look like a Velociraptor and they thrash their food.
Because I am limited for money to buy an ackie I was wondering if there was any other monitor lizard that was in the 3 1/2 foot max range. I'm thinking about buying a mangrove monitor because housing them is similar to tokay geckos.

If anyone can help thanx in advance.

If you can't afford the price to purchase an ackie, you won't be able to afford to feed or house any other monitor.

its not that i cant afford an ackie, its that i don't want to spend 350 on a lizard. I understand that they are the best beginner it's that i want an aboreal tropic monitor lizard and mangrove's are the best i could come up with

redneckboy? You aint in Bama are you? Sounds like you might be a nieghboor of mine.
If I was looking for a climbing lizard, I would get some rudis, but that's just me. If I wasn't scared, I would get a croc.

i think my self that mangrove's are not the best to start with kind of like a nile to me but don't get me wrong some people do good but most of them that you see are imports and they need to be treated and some times don't like to eat in front of you and slam in to the walls and take a lot more time to tame but i would not turn down a nice c/b baby from a good breeder that would be good to start with, a good healthy baby ,,,, i had yellow spot timor's befor there a good starter i payed $99 for it,,, also pro exotic got a baby peach throat for sale there just like mangrovs same care and small moinitor but way more nicer looking what ever you get just make sure you got all the right cage space nice size water bowl and a good all around set up and a good hot spot at 105 to 130 that is what i keep some of mine at

good luck
and shop around it payes,, trust me as soon as a good deal comes along there is another right after that

You can usually buy a yellow ackie for $150-200.

try timors, they are like small mangroves, same attitude, good price and pretty hardy, and the size of ackies.
good luck

I don't know about you but, I'm not sure I would take advise from someone named Scott.

I have had a blue spot timor and a yellow spot timor. I wish I still had both of them now. I really enjoyed the second one I had when it was in a 4x2x4 cage with dirt substrate and plenty of places to climb.

Oh BTW, the only monitor I have ever been bitten by was a timor. it didn't hurt though.
