so i been trying to breed my pair of geckos for about 2 weeksnow. and everytime i put the female in the male's tank, the male runs after her and tries to bite her on her neck. then the female shakes her tail and bites the male in defense it seems. how can i introduce the two in a calmer manner? i want to see them breed to make sure they did do it, or does this take a few days for them to get used to themselves. please let me know if im doing something wrong. thanks

Well biting the neck and tail can be part of the mating behaviour. But i'm more interested in what your female is doing. When a male sees another leopard, it'll raise it's tail and shake it. If it's another male it will also raise it's tail and shake it, then they will fight. If it's a female, she should do nothing basically. So my questions is, are you sure you have a male and female?

yes im positive they are male and female. when i put my female in the male's enclosure, she seems scared. When she gets bit, she tries toshake him off and the tip of her tail keepss on moving back and forth.

Maybe your female isn't ready to breed yet. The male will always grab hold of the female, the gentle biting is just mating behaviour.

If the female isn't ready for mating she will be scared and run away and bite the male. She could also be a hot female that will never breed.

How old is your female?

That is all normal behavior for leos..... Females will go on the defence when they are not ready to breed..... Males can be very aggressive and pushy when it comes to mating.... All you need to do is keep introducing the male..... When the female is ready, she will not put up a fight.... She will let the male mount her and she will even move her tail to the side to make it easier for the male to gain access.... Just keep trying and eventually the female will "give in"..... Good luck.....

she is 8 months old and the male is 9 months. they are both giants though and are well above the recommended breeding weight.

I would wait another month or two if she's only 8 months.
