Dandelion Greens

Ravontus Apr 04, 2005 07:25 AM

Greetings,

While wandering the yard this weekend, I noticed several Dandelions growing in the yard. I have seen several post about feeding these to my turtle, however, I was unsure what part to feed them - the flower, the leaves, etc.

I found this site, so it looks like the get just the leaves, uncooked and no soy sauce.

you can use just the leaves, you dont have to collect them outside though (scary because of pesticides) you can buy dandelion greens at the grocery store. Hannaford sells them, and im sure lots of other large change stores do too

I just feed the leaves, although the whole plant is edible, you could feed the flowers if you wanted too. If you collect them in your own back yard and rinse them off you shouldnt have to worry about pesiticides, unless you or a neighbor uses them.

Do you not worry about run off from pesticides? I read somewhere that about 95% of the country is either treated with pesticides or gets the run off from a treated area. Does rinsing well eliminate pesticides?
