What Kind of Turtle is it and Where Does it Come From?

turtlesong Apr 04, 2005 09:36 AM

Hi, I bought this hatchling here in Korea and don't know what kind of turtle it is. They tell me it's a Korean turtle.

I have no pics, but it looks like this:

A dull, olive-grey shell.
It has sharp ridges on the top and sides.
There are opaque, yellowish rings around its eyes, but I'd noticed today they're actually part of the eyes.
It also has a opaque stripe running straight up the middle of its head.
The skin is dark grey, and it has a pretty long tail, although this may just mean it's a male.

Any suggestions?

You could check the species gallary at www.chelonia.org.

I think it's actually a map turtle, agreed? I saw some of the pictures on the website you listed.

It has the same ridges/markings, though I couldn't make it out clearly enough.
