Lots to learn about breeding Bcc

Roe Apr 04, 2005 09:43 AM

I did the temp/light cycling in December and January and have one gravid female... I thought the action was done for the season. However, a couple of my males have been very restless, so I placed each of them with a female yesterday and the fireworks started. The females seem willing enough, so perhaps I'll have three Surinams go this year.

I've used "multiple" males for breeding before but in this case it was not needed...

I put another set of Peruvians together about 2 weeks ago and they started going at it. The same with a hypo and an abberant female. Good luck!

I bred a few Surinames in the early 90s and had mediocre success breeding them in December and January. This was the two months that most of your " big timers " said; was the best time to breed.By 1996, I had one of the most impressive groups of Peruvians that you would find anywere, I even had some of Ronnes best girls and boys when he got out of them. The first two years, I tried to breed them like Surinames and had ZERO LUCK and finally, I decided to raise the temps higher on some of my females and try breeding them in May as an experiment and I wish now, I would have bred all of them instead of only two. They started breeding in May and by the end of May both females were done. It was a great year and one of the litters was the best that most have ever seen, Barry " the man " miller has two of them from that litter on his website.Peruvians, like it hot and I have seen that it is not alot of difference in Surinames and Guyanas, BUT I know it to be very true with Peruvians. Good Luck Guys!........Johnson Herp
