Why are hognose snakes so expensive? They seem to cost more now than 10 years ago.

Yes, I remember when they were $25. But like everything else, it's all about supply and demand. About 4 or 5 years ago there weren't enough hognoses on the market for those who wanted them. I remember being at several shows and seeing people going from table to table asking for them. I'm not sure what caused this "craze" - some years certain snakes are in high demand.

After that, the albino and hypo morphs became popular, which increased the demand for "normals." In addition, there have been hognose articles in reptile-orientated magazines, bringing greater awareness to how cool these snakes are - which in turn increases the demand for them.
