Welcome, as for your question, of course there is stuff you need to know. Check around for leo books ansd caresheets. Alot of people have links on their sig to websites about geckos including me. The web is filled with information, just look.

Invest in a good book. Try not to use sand as a substrate, or anything close to sand (like desert blend) . . . it can cause impactions. Always supply a humid hide, and offer enough heat.

Most pet stores offer online care sheets. PETsMART has one on their website that is very accurate (except for the sand part that I've been taught well here about) and the people here are really knowledgeble and helpful.

Also, if you get your critter from a breeder, don't be afraid to ask questions. The guy I got my new girl from gave me his number and told me to never hesitate to call. My neighbor got a Beardie from him that she was having some problems with and he told her that if the beardie didn't perk up he would be more than happy to replace her for her for a healthy one. (She's since perked up and started eating since then BTW). Reputable breeders go a long way. And don't be afraid of pet stores. SOME of them are a wealth of knowledge and actually offer some nice critters. But DO do some research. Find out where they get their critters from. Most corporate chains get them from some reputable places like Flukers and Sandfire Dragon Ranch.

Like I said tho, the people here are very helpful and passionate about Leos. Don't take what they say the wrong way, they want to help you do things properly. Don't be afraid to ask tho. No one here bites . . . I don't think anyways.

There is lots of specific infomation you will need to know abot leo's before purcahsing you. Do lots of research, buy some good books (The Leopard Gecko Manual is a good one), check out some good online websites (any of the links in most peoples signstaures on here are good ones!) and ask lots of questions. Set up your tank completely with EVERYTHING you will need for a couple days before you get your lizard and you will be set up for sucess!
