Hi, :0) About to receive a pair of C.werneri a couple questions

PHEve Apr 04, 2005 02:10 PM

My pair should arrive shortly, maybe tomorrow. I'm getting their reptarium set up. I have a spare incase I notice the male really pestering the female.

Anyway, as far as temps and basking, need some help, I have read room temp is fine for these guys. My reptile room is much too hot but my downstairs is perfect. We keep the heat about 68- 69 I have used my temp gun inside the reptarium and thats the reading I'm getting.

A branch under the uv strip , I'm getting about 4 to 5 degrees warmer. Should I use a low wattage bulb for a basking site and get it closer to 80 ?

Thanks a bunch guys, appeciate any and all advice and knowledge on keeping these guys happy and healthy .

I will post some pics when they arrive I'm a lizard picture taking NUT !
My scaley kids

Hey Eve,
I have had my female for a few weeks, and am receiving a male in the next couple days. The ambient temp in my basement during the daytime is also in the higher 60's, and I have a 40 W basking spot. At first I anticipated her not to use it based on what I have read, but wanted to at least offer it. However, she uses it quite often, but she may also be gravid, so I don't know if that makes a difference. If the cage is large enough, then your Werneri should be able to thermoregulate as they please. I also have much higher humidity conditions for her than my other chams, and I often find her right under the humidifier piping. Good luck with them.

Now I can drive you nuts fo ra couple weeks until I get mine squared away, ehehhehe

My dining room is registering 70% humidity, I think becuase we have 2 large ciclid fish tanks in that same area.

My question is this... I own a mister pump, that you can set to go on anytime you want and off, would this be useful or would hand misting be sufficent? I'm used to hand misting many of my other herps, so I'm used to it.

Thanks for all your help, always cool to find someone who has the same kind to compare notes with so to speak, LOL

Glad to help. By mister pump, what do you mean? If you mean a fully automatic misting system with high pressure pump, then I would recommend it. I have one for all of my chams. If however you are referring to a Habba Mister, it may help to provide drinking water and somewhat increase the humidity, but they are not very useful otherwise. The droplets they make are too large to dramatically increase the humidity and the reservior is small.

My best suggestion would be to buy an ultrasonic humidifier (many on this forum use a Sunbeam model) and use PVC pipe to direct the mist into the cage, and run it for a few hours a couple times a day. I find my female really enjoys it.

What I have is a called "Tropical Air Humidifier and Air Enhancer" I don't know if its really any good, never used it it was given to me.

But if I dont like the way it works when I set it up in the morning, I will look into the Sunbeam you suggested.

My pair should arrive by 10:30 tomorrow morning, I'm excited to see them, all the lizard species I have, I have never had a chameleon.

I will let ya know and post some quick pics after they settle in a bit.

Don't want to stress them to soon.

Thanks again
