We have a new ball python that we have had for a little over a week. We got him on March 25. This is the 4th or 5th day in a row that he has stayed in his hide and not came out. He has also not shown much of an interest in eating. He shys away from the rat the couple of times that we have tried putting him in the cage with the rat. We are not sure whether it is a male or female. I'm not sure if that would matter.

Thanks in advance,
Shannon

Well shortly after I posted this he stuck his head out and I believe he is shedding. His eyes are all clouded over. Right before he went into his hide for these 4 or 5 days straight he was also soaking his whole body in his water dish for a really long time. How long does this usually last and how long after a shed does it usually take for them to eat again? Also what can you do to help him shed. I have been keeping his aquarium really warm and the humidity between 50% to 70% on the average it has stayed on 60%.
Thanks

Keep the humidity up a little higher 70-80% and leave him alone as much as possible (they get really annoyed really easily when shedding). Usually they will take a nice big crap after shedding, letting you know they are ready to eat again...lol
