i have a female water dragon, but she hasn't been gravid.... ever.

tor038505 Apr 04, 2005 04:58 PM

My dad had her for about 2 years, she didn't lay eggs or show any sign of eggs. I've had her for about maybe 4 months now, she is still yet to show any signs of eggs. She has some cysts where her body meets her back legs, on both sides. It doesn't seem to bother her and she's health as can be. She's very active and loves to be handled. I'm not sure what is going on. I'll take pics of her. I'm pretty sure she's a she. But somewhere along the line I could have been mistaken.

Their age and general husbandry and health dictate if and when they lay eggs (if they're female-LOL). I think it's possible for them to lay eggs that are never found also. I read a post where a lady came home and found a hatchling hanging on the reptarium and she didn't know her female had even laid eggs. My daughter dug up 6 eggs last year and didn't know that her dragon had laid a clutch. I guess it just depends on how closely you watch your reptile's health and eating habits.

Those arent cysts they are femoral pores. If they are very noticable it could mean your dragon is a male. If they are the same color as your dragon, you have a normal female.

Ok, cool. I'm trying to get some pictures of her/i think, but my camera doesn't want to zoom in to where you can actually see it without it being a horrible blur. I'm trying to get a macro lense to finally put that to rest. I'd crap myself if I came home and there were little babies around the cage. lol.. thanks for the help ladies, i'll try to get those photos up soon.

If your "female" looks like this, you don't need to worry about eggs because "she" is a "he". Very large nuchal crest, large spikes on mid sagittal and sagittal crests.
A female will have small or no spikes at the age of your dragon.

Well, i'm pretty sure she's a she. She only has that little "fin" on the back of her neck that flares up when a cat gets near her or something scares her. I'm going to be building new habitats for all my reps soon, i'll just remember to place an egg laying bin just in case, thanks for the help. =-)
