Size difference!

Tumtum03 Apr 04, 2005 05:09 PM

These two I bought at pretty much the same time. Now the funny thing is...the small is the one that is two weeks older. They are both about 10 months old. The big one is about 14 inches (1 tail nip) and weighs in at 230 grams. The small one is 10.5 inches and 50 grams. I've taken her to the vet and everything, can't find one thing wrong with her. She is a pure blood sandfire. So now I am looking into selling her to someone who just wants a pet. I bought her for breeding purposes and well I can't do that with her, I would to be afraid if she actually did get bigger it would pass on to her babies. I mean shes a great eater, loves anything you give. She just wont grow any bigger, or at least she hasn't grown in months. But boy is she fiesty, what she lacks in size she makes up of in attitude; ) Anyone else have this happen to them?

are they housed together? if they are then that probably explains the size difference. they should be housed separately!!!!

Please people give me some credit. I'm not that stupid to house them together. It was just a photo taken to show how two animals the same age can be totally different in sizes.

This is a better picture of the smaller one. Even in shed you can see how much red she has in her! Let me know what you guys think of her!

That is interesting to hear. I've never seen any bearded dragons that are that small for their age. I think that nothing is wrong with it. It is probably in its genetics that it is small and I don't think it's babies will grow quite as small but you are right. They will probably be smaller than their supposed to be. Love looking at the picture. Sorry that you are selling it though. It would be hard for me to sell my beardie.

I just want her to go to a good home that will give her the time she needs. She would make a good pet for someone who wants a high quality dragon at a cheap price, and small size. It was not easy to get rid of any animals I have had but once you sell one or two, it gets easier. I mean shes been a good pet, but I am looking into breeding these guys and I need all the space I can get!

Some bearded dragons grow at different rates. The fact she's eating well and active certainly is a good indication she is healthy. With a clean vet bill, ruling out parasites or other ailments, it's just possible she is naturally slower to put on the weight. In 6 months time, she could easily catch up to your other one. Another question, is are they from the same parents? Did you see the adult size/weight of her parents? Asking some questions from the breeder you bought her from may give you some information about how her clutchmates have grown. It could also be genetics as well.
