constipation............................

herpluver Jul 09, 2003 11:24 PM

i would have checked the past post but that thing is a pain in the but to get the animal you are looking for.

anyway, our litle girl has not pooped in about 10 days, not unusual, she's gone about that long before, but i start getting worried. she 350 grams little over a year old, eats lots of greens and crix.. it does not seem to be bothering her and her tummy is not tight just looks full. i've been giving baths for a couple days (this never worked with her in the past), so i would like to find out what other things i can do, i've heard some say mineral oil but how much. i'll call the vet tomarrow and talk to him but just thought i would see what others have done.

thanks
Samuel

Just 1-2 drops of mineral oil. 10 days is a looong time.

10 days is long. Have you checked the temps? They do need a 100 degree body temp to digest well. Basking spot should be 105 to 75 on the cool side. Warm soaks will help, has to be warm though to the touch. Only use 2-3 drops of oil.

What works for me is pureed carrots. Since your dragon is eating regularly, I would add about half a teaspoon of pureed carrots (I make them by using the parmasaun grater on a cheese grater (the one with tiny little holes instead of the slicers)). Feed this once or twice a day in addition to your soaks and the dragon should poop in a day or two.

Gentle massages from stomach to vent also help as well. If she doesn't poo in a few more days I would take her to the vet to see if she has an impaction.

I would try just giving them drops of water from a spray bottles each day. I soak my greens/veges in water and then put them in thier bowls. Push the greens that really helps them go. Also a warm bath. I have two beardies that have no problem in the constipation department but I have a runt that was not taken care of very well and he always seems to have these problems. Usually lots of water to drink and a warm bath is a surefire way to get him to poop within about 24 hours but I wouldn't let him/her wait 10 days that could cause some problems.
