My, my, my...we are a fiesty group!
I recently moved to the Bay Area from Los Angeles so I'm not sure if this is availlable here but:
This bedding is based on 100% plant based materials (NOT coconut, bark, etc.) and is a passable component for carnivorous reptiles. It contains a bacteriostatic agent to help reduce germs and bacterial growth too. It holds more humidity than reptile carpet, similar to paper towels, but not enough to harm or cause respiratory infections. Its also easier to clean than reptile carpet (poop scoops). Never had any problems with impaction in my career with this hobby.
While Leos are supposed to be carnivorous by nature, many of my captive breds eat fruits & veggies occasionally and also LOVE fruit flavored baby food. Their diet is 99% live prey (assorted) but I discovered that they eat roughage occasionally when I found one munching on some veg left to catch a couple loose crickets. If they like this stuff then it can't hurt -- the water content is probably beneficial. If they can eat this stuff then there is no reason the substrate, if ingested (unlikely, as I feed in separate areas) shouldn't also be ingested.
This substrate also comes recommended by my vet. If anyone is in the Bay Area, Dr. Nakamura is an AMAZING Herp vet! I found him through 2 complete strangers' recommendations when I moved here. Check out this very cool rescue story about him saving "The Professor", a bearded dragon!
Cheers,
