questions regarding shedding

gonexenopus Apr 04, 2005 09:22 PM

i've got a juvie female veild named Yema. I've had her for two months, but she was just a tiny little thing when i first got her. i dont know the average age of baby veilds when they are sold, but it was probably around just a few weeks.

anyways, i've only seen her shed once. within the second week i had her. and one time, a few weeks ago i woke up to find her with just the reminants of skin on her feet.

is she shedding at night when no one is arond? how often is it normal for them to shed? i've also noticed her rub her eye on her branch right before both shedding times. is this an indication that she is getting ready to shed?

thanks!

I haven't had my cham. for long but I got mine very small also. He has shed twice in the past month and it takes him about 5-8 hours to shed it all off completly. I have seen him rub his head when there is skin stuck on it from him sheding. From what I have read there is no real set time for them to shed but, I would guess that they will shed more often when they are younger then when they are an adult due to there rapid growth rate. Hope this helps, im sure that the other more experienced guys will be able to help you better

Hi, shedding is completely normal and the frequency depends on how fast your cham is growing, how much their eating, etc. Young chams will shed more frequently as they get bigger. They will "rub" themselves on branches, in between plant stems, in between plants and the side of the screen cage, etc. to help remove the old skin. Here is a picture of my Nosey Be shedding. It took him about a half day to completely get all the old skin off...it always seems like the skin on his zygodactyl feet is last to come off.

LOL Nez! He gets pretty adament during shedding and will literally rub himself all over the place...he gets between the cage and the mister hose and just starts rubbing back and forth. It's like when you get poison ivy and can't stand the itch!
