You are right.....It kinda looks like this one.

vichris Apr 04, 2005 09:39 PM

Thats why I guessed last night that yours came from DV. I cant wait to start hatching some of these beauties out. You have a really nice looking leonis there.

jlassiter Apr 04, 2005 09:45 PM

Thanks for the compliment Chris.
I would love to see an orange leonis with "keyholed" saddles....
Maybe in time it can be achieved. I think an orange leopard Thayeri would be awesome as well.....
Again...Nice snakes Chris.
John Lassiter
Here is another 2003 holdback female that will breed next year.

vichris Apr 04, 2005 09:55 PM

She looks alot like some of Chris Bodner snakes. Nice quality clean snake.

jlassiter Apr 04, 2005 10:04 PM

YEP...Chris and Mike have some Vivid line Thayeri as are some of mine. This one IS from my Vivid line of Thayeri.
Tim Gebhart did all the work to get them so nice. I just pair them up and wait for them to hatch. It is definitely like X-mas in the Summertime at my house when Mexicana are hatching.
"The snakes are in the driver's seat and we are just along for the ride......". One of my favorite quotes from Don Soderberg...

Here is another one from my Vivid line of Thayeri. I don't think they have to be orange or yellow to be beautiful......I like this one just as much as the orange ones I have produced.....

pikiemikie Apr 04, 2005 10:37 PM

John, the saddles on this one are just incredible........mike

jlassiter Apr 04, 2005 11:15 PM

Thanks Mike....
Hope to see some of those awesome babies from you guys this year.
Keep us all posted on your progress. Make sure Chris takes a ton of pics to share with us.
I think my orange milksnake phase thayeri from Vivid is going into her pre egg laying shed cycle now. She is starting to dull a little and is swollen too. Maybe by the weekend she will be opaque. I am psyched....I could have eggs in a couple weeks...WOO HOO...
I will take a pic of her and post it soon. She is one fat Thayeri....I wonder how many eggs she will lay. It is her first year to breed.

I never knew that there was someone really named Mike involved with Chris Bodner. I wanna hear the full story! I always thought that was just a cute alias.

vichris Apr 04, 2005 10:37 PM

Nice looking buckskin. Interesting head pattern.

Ya Tim Gebhard and Dan Vermilya both had a hand in producing some really nice brood stock for us. I remember before the internet really got going how I would drool over the Ads that both of them would post in "Vivarium" & "Reptile" magazines.

jlassiter Apr 04, 2005 11:11 PM

I drooled too.....I still do sometimes especially when I see Dan post his white leonis thayeri and leopard thayeri. Then I go to Tim's website and drool some more.....LOL
Great little hobby we have here, eh?

Here's a river rd male I bought from Vivid

jlassiter Apr 04, 2005 11:28 PM

Now that DOES look blue.
Nice speckling characteristic of River Road Alterna.
Here is one of my favorite Alterna. It is a Lajitas female from Don Shores. She was slow grower but will finally breed next year.
I like her diamonds and alternates....
John Lassiter

vichris Apr 06, 2005 04:09 PM

Thanks again John. I really like your alterna. Those diamonds are very unique.

Sometimes I feel a little aggravated seeing others snakes and "talking" to them about the kind of snakes I have a passion for. I used to live in Prescott Valley AZ and "Kerby" and I were always herping and breeding snakes and raising mice and rats kind of like a team. I miss that here in NM. I see your snakes and just kind of wish you were here so that we could "do" a breeding project. I really like this forum though. Its a great outlet to share the passion.

jlassiter Apr 06, 2005 08:13 PM

Well....MOVE down South and get out of that dry NM heat...LOL
Here it only hits about 105 for a high in the middle of August, but the humidity is what kills you (what a cliche). The humidity hits about 75 to 80 percent when it is that hot, but when it is cooler...like 80 degrees the humidity hits a whopping 95 percent....

I agree this forum has turned out better than all the other subforums that Barringer started. Look at the great pics of the nicest looking snakes in North America......

Thanks for the complement on the alterna Chris...
John Lassiter

vichris Apr 06, 2005 09:39 PM

NOT!!!

It rarely hits 100 Here in Albuquerque. No humidity. We have great weather here. I LOVE NM. But I do miss having a herp buddy. Besides I have 3 other hobbies that involve NM. Flyfishing, Bow hunting for Elk, Motorcyle riding.

Where do you live John? Louisana?

jlassiter Apr 06, 2005 10:01 PM

I would never live in LOUSY ANA.....LOL
I live in South Texas....Corpus Christi to be exact. I could never leave the beach.....
I have pretty similar hobbies as well as Herping...
I fish (no fly fishing yet) for Red Drum and Speckled Trout here in the area bays and the Gulf beach, I bow hunt and rifle hunt in the Hill Country of Texas up north of San Antonio...We have an array of game to bowhunt (fallow, axis, whitetail, hogs and turkey).
But.....Snakes have got to be my favorite hobby....
John Lassiter

vichris Apr 06, 2005 10:37 PM

I would have to say bow hunting for elk is my favorite hobby but.................. I spend far more time at my herping hobby.

Check out my high whites doin the nasty. I love this time of year.

Uncloudy Apr 05, 2005 10:52 PM

Welcome to this forum Chris. I've already seen some of great pics and looking forward to more and always learning more about my favorite mexicana spp.
Happy mexicana herping,
Uncloudy

vichris Apr 06, 2005 03:43 PM

LOL....... I mean uncloudy. Where did you get that name? Do you mind me asking your real name? BTW what does "spp" mean?

jlassiter Apr 06, 2005 08:15 PM

LOL....When I first met Uncloudy I thought his name would be Sunny or Sonny.....LOL
I WAS WRONG.......
Fill us in Uncloudy....I know your name, but not everyone here does....
John Lassiter

Uncloudy Apr 06, 2005 11:24 PM

LOL............ditto Chris my name is Chris also.
I got Uncloudy from a song by Willie Nelson "Uncloudy Days", it fits good for me being in Yuma, AZ the hottest area in the Sonoran Desert.
(spp) sorry, I should've spelled it out, I meant the subspecies..........the mexicana subspecies (thayeri, geeri, mex, and I like the old school including alterna, and ruthveni.

vichris Apr 07, 2005 05:15 PM

I've been there a couple of times. The company my wife works for just opened a resturant there. Johnny Carinos. She works for the franchise.
I was born and live in NM. I lived in Prescott Valley AZ from 1993-2000. Kerby from Lonesome Valley reptiles and I used to do ALOT of herping together. I knew/know quite a few herpers in AZ.
I might argue with you about the hottest place in AZ. My daughter lives in Bullhead City. Talk about hot and dry. At least you guys have some farms and agriculture going on down there.

Anyway thanks for the welcome.

PS: Hey whats with all the Chris's

Here's my favorite thayeri

jonellopez Apr 08, 2005 01:57 PM

Hi John

Wow. that snake kinda looks like my applegate stock female. she originally came from a local breeder that was breeding for that faded look on the blotches. Don't we just love the thayeri! Take care.
