Pacman behavior

joeysgreen Apr 05, 2005 05:09 AM

Hello, I have a male? pacman frog that is approx. 3-4 years old. He is kept on moist peat moss substrate, 76% air humidity, 27-28C (82F), and has a water bowl available. Eats young mice and occasional crickets (usually ignored).

My question is in regards to behavior. This frog often sits with his mouth just slightly parted. It is not open mouth breathing, or appearing ill in any other manner. Other behaviors such as eating, and moving around the cage are all normal. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Ian

Try lowering the temp....I keep my pac at about 75F (room temp) He is about a year old and is a huge male....eats adult mice (when I let him). I have been in arguements about this...so please no comments...but I have also found a mostly aquatic enviroment works well....for a while I had him in a half land half water...he choose water...now I keep in a total water set up....with one end about .5 inch underwater (where u usually sits after digging in) and about 3in in other end with lots of plants.....and s goldfish which he has lost interest in.

It sounds to me like the beginning stages of metabolic bone disease. Are you dusting his crickets with anything before feeding them to him? If not you should be, I use Herptivite Calcium & Vitamin D3 suppliment. You should also be gut loading the crickets, I have used floating turtles sticks and the commercial gut load for them so far, and both have worked pretty well.

How does the behavior relate to MBD at all?

However with that said, I do realize that with a diet of non-adult mice he is a candidate and will consider injecting the juvie mice with Ca glucionate.
