Hey,
Besides the obvious geographical differences, there are also physical characteristics, that make the difference more apparent once you train your eye to recognize it. Borneo short-tails hail only from the Island of Borneo (Kalimantan). Their physical difference is made apparent by the brownish background coloration and dark brown saddles. Scalation is another matter all together. Borneo's also have small granular scales just under the margin of the eyes, that come into contact with the supralabials and separate or divide the margin of the eyes from the supralabials.
Red bloods on the other hand, are found on various parts of Malaysia, from the mainland (Peninsular Malaysia), into northern Sumatra and some of the surrounding islands on the Malacca Straits. They are noted for being reddish, to orange, and even brown in some instances, although not quite as brown as the Borneo's (more like a muddy orange), with some populations being yellow.
The red bloods also have a distinguishing scale feature, which also aids in its identification. If you look closely at the margins of the eye, you will notice that the red bloods do not have small granular scales making contact with the lower margin of the eye, but instead, have one solid scale that comes into conact, with the lower margin of the eyes.

Yellow example of the Red blood:

Below is an example of the head and eye scalation commented on earlier: The red blood is on the left and the Borneo is on the right. Notice the granular scales on the Borneo, just below the eye.

Hey Angel,
That yellow-phase Malaysian blood is pretty rad looking; is that one of yours?

Hey,
Yeah! she is one of mine. I've raised her for about 5 years and she's a pretty nice girl. However, hasn't yet produced any babies. She was a Pro-Exotic off-spring I got about 5 years ago.

Hey,
Speaking of brown red bloods, there is a good example of one in the post just below this one, "what kind of blood is this".

thanks bro! that was alotta info there...i think i am gonna stick with the blood python.....now that i have settled that, whereabouts could i get a good cb blood?? i want something attractive yet not outlandishly priced, ya know? under 300.00 preferably, any ideas?? and who is this mark fellow i keep seeing reference to in this forum?? thanks again for the info!
Hey,
I'm not sure who Mark is, but I think you mean, Kevin Marter. He's got some outrageous red bloods, but I'm not sure if he's got any left from this years clutch.
You can check with Kara of Nerds, or Pro-Exotics. They both carry some very nice looking red bloods or you can check the classifieds here on KS, but be very careful of the dealers and be sure to discuss any and all provisions with them before buying anything. Any live arrival details and or DOA terms and refunds etc. And also, whether the animals are wild caught or cbb.

Keep in mind that if the blood is a wild caught it could have a bad temper. If you are already wary of the dealer, don't get one from him. I'm getting one from Kara at NERD in a week, and not only are there snakes awesome, you know you're getting them from a good place. I wouldn't buy any snake (especially as a pet) that you didn't know for a fact it was in good condition/temperament, etc. Email or call them up, they're very helpful.
