I have a question about a rack for adult dragons.....please respond.

HTDesigns Apr 05, 2005 10:26 AM

Hey everyone....I want to build a rack for my adult dragons I just need to find out what everyone thinks.

The boxes are 36 x 24 x 8.5 inches. would it be safe to keep two adult females in this size box?

Thanks for your help

Paul

8.5 inches high? seems like they could escape from that?? i know i have had an adult male beardie escape, i did not see this, but the only way he could have got out was a 10-12 inch vertical jump out of the tank, unless he morphed some gecko toes and climbed the glass.......so i would rethink the highth of the boxes, unless they will have lids on them, even then wouldnt they be too close to the lights?? or do u plan on using heat tape or mats or some other form of heat?? need more info i guess it what i am trying to say with all this nonsense i just typed to you......darn coffee, makes me ramble just as much with a keyboard........ :-p

I will post a pic of my rat rack this is were I got the idea. the rat boxes are 27 x 19.75 x 6. and yes they will be covered.

I will be using a thermostat for the heat lights. they will be about 6 inches from the to which is 14 inches from the basking spot.

thanks Paul

the size is too small for a single adult bearded dragon. Other than that, you can build racks for bearded dragons..just keep in mind the minimum size cage recommended for a single adult dragon is 4'x2'x2'. Though you can skimp on the height, but I wouldn't recommend less than 18". As bearded dragons do like to climb, some height is required to allow them to climb. Also you do want them within 12" of any florescent tube UVB bulbs. (for Mercury Vapour bulbs, you want at least 18" as minimun distance).

building something like a 5'x2'x18" cage would house 2, maybe 3 adult female bearded dragons, but a bit larger would be better for three bearded dragons.
