We are still in the process of organizing resistance to pending legislation in North Carolina that would ban boas (and other boids that can reach 8' or more). Our opposition (PETA) is organized, well funded, and intending to get this legislation introduced in other states.

Please write to our legislators.

Hey there!
I am all for helping you out. This affects all of us. I can't believe they are labeling boas as "inherently dangerous"! Is there any way we can get an online petition going? Like a general letter that can be signed and sent by multiple people. I know that almost every person in my address book would be willing to sign!
Let me know and good luck!

.....as many individual, unique letters as possible. I think this would be most effective. Just a constant flow of letters. However, I know the on-line petition was used for opposing the NY ban and I wonder if anyone closely involved in that struggle has an opinion on its effectiveness. We would certainly try anything with a proven track record.

I see your point . . I will compose a letter sometime today. I think that this type of legislation is completely unnecessary and I know that this affects all of us. I am sure California is in line and will at some point be dealing with this, since so many exotic pets are already illegal to own. I am not 100% sure about the accuracy of this, but my friend has informed me that if you live in the city of Los Angeles, you must have a permit to keep and own a boid. Anyways, I will send an e-mail to my boa-fanatic friends . .
Good Luck!

on the list, Gray, but have yet to get a response! Do you think I should re-send or compose yet another letter? I will do whatever I have to in order to help! We really need to let politicians hear the other side of this issue.

Denny,
So far very few people are getting reponses except for the form letter responses that Senator Garwood (bill sponsor) is sending out. I thought that sending out physical letters would make a difference but I have not received any feedback from those yet. Ironically, people from out of state seem to be getting much more response than us North Carolinians (including a phone call!). However, from the small bits and pieces that I am gathering, we are making a difference. The legislators are surprised (shocked?) by the level of response this issue has created.
