I am currently using a 20watt light bulb for my 20 gallon long enclosure for my BRB. I've been reading about ceramic emitters...are they better than regular light bulbs? What use are thet good for...please explain?

I don't really like either one, I think under tank heaters do a better job and don't dry the air like lights etc. But if your going to use one of them go with the light but get a red one, that way you can watch your snake when it's out and about at night.

I also use UTH, but given the choice between ceramic heat emitters and a light bulb I choose the CHE. The CHE allows you to heat the cage night and day without using two different colored bulbs. Also, the CHE will last about 5 years, that cannot be said about most light bulbs. The other poster is right though, they dry both dry out the air in a hurry.

I agree w/ Chris. I prefer the CHE also since I use a black flouresent light for night-time illumination. However, I've only used one during the colder months to supplement my UTH in order to affect proper ambient temps within the enclosure. The dehumidifying effect is a real concern though and having no automatic misting device I found myself having to hand-spray the enclosure twice a day. Be careful that you dont run the temps too high. A thermostat is a must!
