im kind of worried...............

raisnok Apr 05, 2005 08:54 PM

im kind of worried about naaza, my corn, he wont eat, hast eaten in about 6 to 7 days, i know i sound silly now but he was eating 2 pinkies a week, naaza is a baby corn right now about 16 inches maybe longer and about the size of a forefinger....
i think he might be fixing to shed, i have had naaza since march 15 and he hasnt shed since i have had him.... but he looks to have an opaque look to him. if he is fixing to shed how do i know for sure????
this being my first snake, i guess is why i am kind of worried.

Considering you really don't need to feed it more then once a week anyway ( my opinion) 6 or 7 days obviously isn't a problem. Heck a few weeks isn't a problem.
If your snake is getting dull and opaque looking then it is probably about to go into shed.
It will get dull and its eyes will get cloudy and then it will clear up. A few days after it clears up it will shed.

I agree with Draybar, it's common. I feed all my snakes - hatchlings to sub adults - every 7 days. I have females who will go off feed on their own all winter long and start back in the spring. Very common, don't worry one bit!

ok i wont worry im pretty sure the snake is fixing to shed, as it seems to be hiding , and her skin and is opaque.... im wondering in seven days from the time i last fed her should i try again??

Just wait until it sheds and feed it that day, the next day, or the next schedule feeding date.
Your choice.
If your snake has been a good feeder I would be willing to bet that it will go back to eating on schedule as soon as it sheds.
This can also give you an indication on feeding it in the furture.
If this becomes common then anytime feeding day comes up and your snake is in the "blue" just skip that feeding and any subsequent feedeings until it sheds. This will not be harmfull for your snake and could keep you from thawing out a food item just to have to throw it away.

and doesnt take to being handled, before a few days ago he didnt mind, now if you touch him he runs the other direction.
