Quick question..

babystolemydingo Apr 06, 2005 12:51 AM

I planned on using a clamp lamp for my leo, but my friend said that i should just use a UTH because the light will bother him.

I've read diff things, some suggesting using a bulb, some suggest UTH and some say both.

Well I have a extra UHT (Ultratherm Heat Pad) and a extra clamp lamp. What should I use? lol

He will be in a 20L if that helps

Honestly, I would use a UTH (and if the UTH does not reach the temps needed, use a bulb too). Belly heat for leos I think is always better. They are nocturnal, so they will hide normally when it's light out.

I use both. I have a 40 watt regular bulb on both my tanks and a UTH under them both. I turn on their lights when I get up in the morning and my husband turns them off before he goes to bed. My geckos have gotten used to the light during the day and it doesn't seem to bother them. They're still awake when I get up in the morning but the sun's just starting to come up when I get up so usually when the sun starts to come up is when I turn on their lights and they know that its bed time.

I use both. I have a UTH meant for a 10-20 gallon tank and a 60 watt infrared bulb(i take clamp off, just rests on screen). Be diligent and check the temps. I get 90 right now which is at the high end of desired temps. Being in the NorthEast, ambient temperatures fluctuate and you may need a different set up for different seasons. I plan on removing the lamp for the summer and just using the UTH. good luck

o btw, buy a 10$ dig thermometer with a probe, you'll need it.
