stink problem

SHHAWKE Apr 06, 2005 01:14 AM

one of the new snakes i got last week has got gas or something... i have tried about everything i could think of... if i take him out and wash him he is fine and as long as i leave him out of the cage is does not stink... but once he is put back in the cage he stinks... the cage doesent stink real bad once i take him out the smell airs out in a few minutes...

its the smell of a smelly burmese for those that have smelled that...

i have swaped cages
tried different substrate

i am thinking it might have a little to do with nervs, but i dunno for sure...

any other ideas???

You have me stumped Shiloh,

my best suggestion is to watch closely for any discharge once back in the cage. Keeping on white paper may better detect this if say, your boa is leaking urine. The boa is otherwise healthy?

shhawke Apr 06, 2005 04:26 AM

i have him on newspaper right now so i can see if is is leaking any fluids but i have not seen anything...

i thought he might have a RI when i got him but i think it was more stress from the delivery trip then anything...

this is the strangest thing i have seen... its like he has BO or something... i had him out for over 2 hours today and he dident stink at all and neither did his cage... its like he puts off nasty pheramones when in a cage... and it only takes about 15 minutes... the smell is like rotten sausage...

i have checked his bell for belly rot.... this snake seems to be in perfect shape... but their has got to be something... the person i bought the pair from is not reterning my calls or emails... so they might be out of town, so i have no idea if this is a normal thing for him of not...

any help would be awesome

Does it smell like a re-gurg?

Do you know if they fed him before he was shipped?

I've got one boa like that. I can smell his burps after he gets
fed. They smell like regurgs, it always worries me but he
holds everything down.

she feed him before, but she wont return my messages... is does kinda smell like regurg, but i have had him home for about 1 week now... do you think it should still stink???

i keep my red tails in neodoshea cages so maybe he is burping and its not airing through the vent well???

Are you sure it's a male? I have a female that will musk me if I piss her off. I could also be that your boa is going to die. Not to scare you but I had a boa that smelled allot like what you are smelling and soon after she passed. I opened her up to find that she had rotted from the inside out about mid way down her belly. If it's a new boa then it may not be used to the new house and the other reptiles you may have. Hope it not serious. good luck

if its something bad you can at least get your money back. if its something bad you might be able to save the snake. To be sure i feel a vet is in order. Paul
