I can breed monitors but I can't breed mice...lol

Actually I setup a couple colonies of mice today...figuring I would give it a try...since I need the pinkies. I don't know what's going on...it seems like all the mice are fighting. I have them set up in 1:3 ratio. In a 18"x24" tubs with wire tops and an homemade automatic water system. There is plenty of room, can anyone explain the "fighting." I don't know what they are doing..any insight will help.

were they adults when you bought them?..

if they were you can expect some fighting between the individual animals to establish dominance and some sort of colony social structure..

if they are babies/young.. its just play.. or more of the same stuff the adults are doing..

also double check you only have 1 male in the cage.. ive setup tubs before accidently put in 2.3 instead of 1.4.. LOL

best of luck

is that the male is ready to breed and the ladies aren't comfortable with him yet. I have seen this in my colonies where the male would try to mount a female and she would spin around and attack him. When she was ready to be receptive there was no such behavior.
