1st Cluch ever need help!!!!

PetMania Apr 06, 2005 08:51 AM

Yesterday my 3000gm normal female laid 10 good eggs (That I can see). She laid them around 12:00 (Lunch time). The incubator I had ready broke and I was waiting on a new horvabator. She was not due till the 12th so I thought I had time. But she thought other wise. I got the new Horvabator last night and set it up so I could get the temp right. My question is will the eggs be ok with her tell I can get the temp right and get the eggs in the incubator? The cage she is in is 90 degrees and she is still wrapped up on them. Any Help would be great. Oh by the way she was breed by a posible het for albino.

The eggs should be fine with mom until your incubator is ready. Many people rely on maternal incubation anyway. You might want to add some moistened moss or even damp paper towels to increase the humidity in the cage. If you are using the hovavbator, the eggs MUST go in a seperate egg box (rubbermade type disposable ones work well). If you just drop the eggs in you hovabator, the eggs will dry out too quickly. If you do not have the expansion kit for your hovabator, use a styrofoam fish box (pet store will likely give you one) or shipping container. Good luck!

Like Joe said, why not leave them with mom?

Only if you use the fan model will it be harder to keep up the humidity. I have used the fan model successfully without an inner chamber. I needed to add less than half a cup of water about once every 10 days. Right now, I use multiple hovabators with the fan disconnected and still do not use an inner chamber. Although, I now use styrofoam fish boxes as the bottoms. They hold more vermiculite, eggs and moisture.

Again, if you are new to this, I recommend leaving the eggs with mom. Just ensure they are not directily exposed to heat.
