does anyone know if a mvb gives the same amount of heat as a regular heat bulb if they were the same wattage (100 wattage for example)?

Mercury Vapor Bulbs actually produce more heat per wattage than normal basking bulbs with only emit UVA. That is why you need to have a ceramic fixture for the bulb as they get too hot for a plastic one.
