Eggs in as little as 32 days .....

Keith Hillson Apr 06, 2005 12:45 PM

give or take a couple days. My female Eastern (first time breeder) was bred on March 22nd and is now in shed. She should shed by mid next week and then tack on another 10 days after that to lay and we have something like 32 days. Seems a bit early to me ???

Possible, but I'd guess that she will shed again. Have you tried palpating her to see if she has ovulated? If you can still feel lumps then she has not ovulated and your schedule will be much longer.

No she is full of eggs. She is gonna go early Im just suprised is all. I have a female NJ Eastern that went at 42 days last year and 47 the year before. Maybe she will shed again but if she swells anymore she is gonna split in two lol. Thanks Rick.

My white-sided axanthic female bred to my snow male on March 3rd and 4th.If we count March 5th as the first day after copulation to April 6th that is 33 days.Today,April 6th,when I got home from work I found that my white-sided axanthic female was also laboring today, she laid 14 good eggs.

Looking back at last years breeding records on females that bred a second time and laid a second clutch, the time frame of egg laying can be shorter.Last year females that double clutched, number of days from copulation to egg deposition are;1went 26 days,2 went 28,1 went 29,1went 30,1went 31,3 went 32,9 others went 33 to 39 days.So 32 days is very possible, wishing you great success with the easterns this year Keith,Tim Ricks.

had a milk bred on 3-16-05 just drop eggs on 4-5-05. i think she was actually bred a bit late in the ovulation cycle. but still, 5 of the 7 eggs look fertile.

Where were you guys when I asked if I was crazy. I have eggs out of a corn that were laid in about 33-35 days. That is the only one this year but I swear I get eggs in the 30-40 day range way more often than in the 60 day range in the previous years. My documentation skills suck. I mean this is a hobby who started all this homework. I hate homework. Seriously though I am going to keep better records next year for sure to see what I get.

So does this mean I am not crazy???

My snakes came into their light cycle on 1-22-05.As of April 6th,48 of my 51 south florida king females have bred, 14 of the 48 females will be 2yrs old in May of this year. The second clutch breedings for this year will begin possibly in the last week of April or in the first week of May.Keeping documentation can be time consuming but if it is studied the following year it can save alot of guess work and time.My hands are full and I need to save some time and do away with as much guess work as possible. Tim Ricks, and yes, many people have called me crazy for many years for doing this.Have A Good Day.

You are absolutely right that records are good to keep. The problem is that I am lazy and I keep half a$$ records. It is not that important to me when I produce right now. If need be I can light cycle them and get eggs a month earlier each year. Now that I am in the north I can use this horrible winter season to my ends as well. The point is, is that this is still a hobby for me and not a biz. You have more Fl. Kings going this year than I have total females I think. I have about 20-25 females that are being breed this year and I might get my food money back. If I start keeping detailed notes on everything I would start to realize that I am losing money and I need to go into Ball Pythons to turn a profit. Yuck for both the Balls and the mind set I would be in. I keep my animals because I love them and they interest me. I breed to hopefully get back the food $$$ I put in to them and because I love to see little snake heads pokeing out of the eggs and the excitement of each egg hatching. I mean most of my animals produce babies that go for less than $50. How am I going to make money that way. I keep what I love not what will make me money. Like most of the guys on here I have a thing for the cheap natural snakes. Next year I am going to keep detailed notes just to see the time from mateing to deposition of eggs. I am going to start in the fall so I have a full referance data set.
Thanks Jason
