having a hard time with baby.

yellowconda12 Apr 06, 2005 01:38 PM

I am not sure if she is getting a rambunchous appetite when I am not around or what. I was out of town and my friend who was watching her (fellow herper; but hes a snake guy) accidently dropped my baby cricket case (around 20 crickets) in her cage. Apparently she ate most of them, its been a couple of weeks since He quadruple fed her, but she has not shown much interest in her food, not even fresh introduced crickets. She has to be at least a couple months old, still black and white and yellow. In a 10 gal, heated for background temps of 75 at night 80 in the day, two hides one moist over UTH with moss, other dry on the other side of cage. Watered everyday, substrate is coco-fiber. Feeding pinheads, mealies, and waxworms. She was an animal when I bought her, she was in petstore bought, caged with several others. May be she is eating when she is not watched, or she was just real hungry from being in a crowd of geckos for too long. Any info, ideas would help, it is hard to see if she has gotten bigger or smaller, I am gonna weigh her on my digi (so damn skitterish though! )

A couple of things. One, 80 is not warm enough for daytime temps, they should be 85-90degrees. Being kept at chronically low temperatures can lead to not wanting to get. Two, when was the last time she pooped? I worry because coco-fiber is a particle substrate and if she injested one when you was eating all those crickets she could be impacted. If you bought her from a pet store did you ever have a fecal done to see if they had parasites? I bought two pet store leo's a few months ago and they ate like pigs and appeared super healthy, then one day they stopped eating, i took them to the vet and they had parasites.

Oh, and a tip for waying, weigh a contaner first and then weigh it will the leo in it. Make it a leo escape proof container so you dont have to worry about her running off!

Good luck

What I meant to say is the cold spot of the tank gets from 75-80, probably closer to 78 in the night, and 85 in the day, and she has a uth and a 75 watt clamp red light, the hot spot in the humid hide is like 90 at least (don't know cause I don't have therm in the humid hide) and a basking spot below light and above UTH, I think I got the temps fairly wired, it helps cause I keep them in our room, which is heated from around 75 to 80 all day long. I actually have to keep them by a blocked out window so thye keep cold on one end of the cage so I have a gradient. Thank you for writing back, I am gonna try feeding her again in a day and a half and see if she has worked out an appetite. her stool was yellow when I got her, but since she has been on the cocofibers she has gotten more and more white urates and brown normal looking poopers. I think she might just be stuffed with crickets. Her tail is looking a bit more fat too today, maybe just taking her time digesting? If she keeps it up wre gonna go to the vet and let him get the fecal nice and fresh. Thank you for writing back.
