Something just happend to my Basilisk..

ToR038505 Apr 06, 2005 04:12 PM

I had taken out his water bowl so I could wash it in the dish washer and I was putting it back and noticed that his legs were like trembling. I didn't know what was going on so I picked him up to see and his entire body just started to shock. I put him down, he's calm now, he isn't shaking. His heart is pounding like nothing i've ever seen. What did I do?

Such stress induced trembling is typical for MDB correlated with Vit. B deficiency.
Provide a good UVB source, carefully check your D3 supplements and give high amounts of B vitamines immediately.
Also take care to offer enough calcium.

Good luck

I give all my reps Reptivite and a Calcium supplement from Herpcare. I provide all the vitamins that is recommended. I provide UVB lighting always when i have his basking light on. It's well within the range to get the rays also. I don't think that it could be that. I don't know if I should take him to the vet or not. =-

From your description of your supplementation regime I bet that the animal receives "enough" Ca and vitamines but that the Ca/P ratio in the food is below 1.0.
Classical Feeder insects as well as supplements are rich in P. So you have to give a pure Ca salt (Ca lactate or Ca citrate) in addition to the standard supplements.
Also check your temps and lights. Make sure you have chill out areas with room temp in the tankl and basking areas which reach 50 000 lux and more.

Good luck

What would you say would be the best schedule and amounts of minerals/vitamins? I have different types of reps and they are all different. Just want to help the little guy out. There's alot of spots where he can "cool off" if he gets hot. I have a large water bowl in case he wants to run around on it, which I see him do often, or take a swim or he can cool off there. I also have a branch for him to bask on and he sleeps on it almost every night.
