Neonate Squams

phobos Apr 06, 2005 08:01 PM

One of two CB05 squams I purchased from Mitch at DRB. They are very small, weighed in at 4 grams each. Eating well on whole pinkys.

Nice, where did you say you got them?

phobos Apr 07, 2005 05:05 AM

I hand picked them while visiting Mitch at Diamond Reptile Breeders. Mitch has fantastic animals wish he did more with Pitless vipers.

Hi Al

Congrats on the new babies! They look really nice. Mind if I show off some of my new ones born here early this year? They are nippy little guys and they are now hammering two pinks per feeding. Enjoy your new guys and take care.

"I’m scared of those nasty big-eyed grey aliens, too. I think it’s that I don’t understand their motivations. I am confident of my ability to out-think, out-con, or if need be, tire-iron-upside-the-head demonic forces, ghosts and goblins, things that go bump in the night, etc. It’s the notion of something that doesn’t have any desire to talk to me except via anal probe that freaks me out"

Ashley:

That's made by Rubbermade and is marketed as a shelf/drawer liner. It has a soft foamy texture that seems to be sticky. The best thing is snakes don't move very well on it. Even fast snakes have a hard time with it, which makes working with them a bit easier.

Cheers!

Gorgeous snakes and great pictures Al. With what camera did you take those? The quality for such tiny little worms is very, very good. Squams are neat little snakes. The one I had though had no problems trying to nail me any time I came near enough...

Great idea about the shelf liner. I hadn't thought of that one before.

Thanks Chance:

It's a Sony DSC-707 which is no longer available. I'm considering upgrading after 4 years & 6000 pictures to the Sony DSC-828 which has features that solve some of the problems that digital point & shoot cameras have with focus. The one important feature Sonys have is the Carl Zeiss lens, nobody else has it and I feel it make a visable difference.

I could get closer when shooting in available light but inside my Serpentarium I have to use the flash which creates a minium distance (subject to lens)you can't shoot beyond because of the way the flash is mounted. Sort of good in the sense that I would be at a greater chance of getting tagged if I got any closer...lol See the photo below I shot with exsisting light of one of my "friendly" Echis almost touching the lens. Wow..I was sweating on that one!

BTW...that mat is excellent...like the snakes are almost glued there....

Best,

Al

Nice AL, I love working with squams; right now, just working with Atheris nitschei...really neat animals. Looks like you have a real healthy and nice looking squam. Rob
