dot on head.

i wish i could show you a picture but i dont have a digital cam. my question is that theres a dark dot on the middle of his head kinda. any idea what it might be folks? plz reply this is the first odd thing i've noticed on my beardie.

If its right in the center of the top of his head then it is normal. I believe it is called the "third eye" im sure someone else will be able to share more details...

Ah yes, the third "eye". Most reptiles have this so called "third-eye". But it is infact not a true EYE. It is more of an adapted scale. There is a cluster of light-sensitive cells on top of the lizards brain. They are located just below a small hole in the skull. This third "eye" helps the lizard to regulate the its body temperature and exposure to the sun.

Wow that certainly stands out on the lighter colored dragons. Never noticed it at all on my normal colored dragon..then again I never looked that closely on her head. I did know there was a heat/light sensor on the top of the head to aid in temperature regulation.

I've noticed that these third eyes stand out more in younger dragons, they start to be less obvious as they grow older, and they start to look like the other scales around it, so it jsut blends in.
