My bearded dragon can't lay eggs

andynguyen Apr 07, 2005 02:48 AM

Hello,
My female bearded dragon got pregnant for a month. Last two weeks, she ran and dig around the tank, then i moved her into a laying cage by her self. I've been waitting for 2 weeks, and she haven't lay any eggs but digging. Last couple days, i found out that she got weak and showing sign of dehydrated, eventhough, i spray her every day. I'd tried to massage her belly, but it couldn't help.
Can anyone help me with this situation?
Should i bring her to the vet for surgery? If so, will the eggs be safe? and will she be able to reproduce the eggs in the future?
Can anyone show me a vet in Orange County who can help me out and handle this operation?
Please let me know
Thank you very much!

I would take her to the vet just in case. If she is eggbound and the situation is not rememedied she could die

Good luck!

Sounds like she needs surgery, or at least treatment from the vet, or she will die. Usually the surgery spays the female so she will never lay again.

Put her in a tub of warm water and let her soak. Many times this will stimulate her to lay eggs (as well as give her a much needed drink of water). If she lays the eggs in the water, just throw them away. You can try to incubate them, but I find most all of them die anyway.
You may need to help her by using some ky jelly. You can apply this by using an old rectal thermometer and carefully inserting it into her cloaca.
If you need to take her to a good vet, I believe Dr Greek is in Yorba Linda. He is an excellant reptile vet.

Hello,
Thank you very much for the information! I do put her in a tub of warm water and let her soak 1 time every day. Do you have the address of the vet in Yoba Linda by any chance?
Thank you very much for your time!

If she still has signs of weakening or doens't lay the eggs, you need to take her to the vet asap. To find a vet in your area, I included the link to the herp vet connection which lists reptile vets all around the US.
