Baby spiny fence lizards just hatched !

snakecharmed Jul 10, 2003 06:25 AM

On Tuesday, 8 new baby spiny fence lizards entered this world, so tiny and so cute! I'm really uncertain what I'm going to do with them, I'm going to keep them until they are a little older and then I'm going to part with a few. The local pet store is interested in them, but I'm afraid that they will end up as snake food and don't want that to happen. I was wondering, is there anybody out there that keep these guys as pets? If so, what are CB babies worth? (I'm more interested in finding them a good safe home than the money) I don't want to let the pet store have them for too cheap because I know what will happen to them. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I want these little cuties to have a bright future. Thanks, Christy

What species, BTW are these little fellas? Baby lizards are VERY susceptible to overheating. I have learned from experience with my own baby spineys to only keep a UVB fluorescent light over them, NOT any sort of heat-producing incandescent light. I have my 3 baby spineys, which are doing very well at 6 months, in a 10 gallon tank with ESU Lizard Litter Jungle Mix as a substrate. There's a few pieces of rock and cholla replica for them to climb on and a little shallow water bowl. They have a Repti Sun 5.0 UVB fluor light above, and that's about it.

Baby lizards are VERY hard to keep and raise. Don't let the pet shop have them at a very young age (or at all!). When the babies are well-grown, a few months old, you might want to advertise them on a reptile forum swap page, making sure they don't go for snake food.

cool.I myself just got 6 bayby lizards in late june from my 2 tropical night lizards and now they are eating and doing great.hope yours do the same.well if you want them to go to a good home Id say advertise in the news paper and once you meet the people tell them that if they are going to use it for snake food you cant sell them for that reason.as for the price Id say not to much.most I see onthe web are pretty low priced.hope this helps.
