Congratulations, he sure is a little sweetheart, I LOVE kinky tails, hehehehehe, I also have a collared named Kinky(same reason)

He's really adorable, and I wish you all the best with him. Beardies are very cool and usually quite sweet!

I lost my 6 year old Auggie, in Jan, and he will be sadly missed. Theres a ton of good people over there on beardies, some being quite knowledgable.

Sure hope you enjoy your new Baby !

Love his pretty pic, looks like a HAPPY lil guy

Congrats Lele!
Purdy color. Real cutie.
Welcome to the wonderful world of beardies! You'll find soon enough that your beardie is unlike anything you've EVER had. They are very social, love to be held, and love company!
They're also little pigs! Babies eat mostly insects, but switch to almost all vegies as they grow, which you will like, I'm sure. My beardies love a good salad, but they go Ga-Ga for a nice fat, juicy roach!!! Yum.

Mine would kill for fresh raspberries. I would scatter a few superworms around the carpet and watch him inhale them like a self propelled vacuum cleaner. Once he's big, whenever you feel unappreciated by the chams you can get the beardie out, watch him run around behind you like a little spiny dog (they are hilarious), have him climb up your pant leg and flop on your lap, and sit stroking him to your heart's content as he takes a snooze. Especially if it is a bit cool in the house. Mine would go back to his terrarium by himself when he wanted home. I built a ramp for him to get from the couch back to the door of the terrarium when he wanted to. He liked to go outdoors on walks sitting on my shoulder. BUT, always leash them as they tend to get interested in something and leap off to go investigate.

Grapes for mine! I offer peeeled half grapes to mine and they just go nuts!
It is very satisfying to get this sort of reaction from a herp. They practically sit up and BEG for their favorite treats. What I think is funny is that as greedy as they are for the treats, they still remain very gentle towards the feeding hand. I've only been bitten a couple times, and those were my fault entirely. I was offering pinkies to my girls and my pinky got mistaken for a pinky.

hey, good to know about raspberries! We grow some on the property but the birds usually get them before I do. There is a "pick your own" farm nearby that I go to every summer for them! I love them, too!

You built a ramp?? Sounds like something I would do - may hit you up for a plan at some point! lol!!

Oh it was nothing very complicated. I had a front opening terrarium on a stand near the couch. I just took a narrow piece of plywood, punched rows of staplegun staples on it to give a rough surface for paws, attached a piece of molding on the cage door end so it would not fall loose, and rested the other end on the back of the couch. Beardies are good climbers and he would often climb up onto the couch back anyway. I would wait until he wanted to get back "home" (he would pace under the terrarium stand, try to jump up to it, basically let me know what he wanted) and put the ramp in front of him. With some coaxing he eventually figured it out.

lele Apr 08, 2005 05:46 PM

I sort of can't wait 'til he is grown but also glad I get to enjoy the baby stage - so I can spoil him...uh-uh, I mean so we can bond

Well, the bonding I noticed was instant...offer food and you've got them!

lele Apr 07, 2005 12:17 PM

yeah, I'm excited! I had finally decided on a blue-tongue skink and then anson sent me a phot of this guy and his sister! She KNEW she had me - that's how I ended up with Luna! I still have that first pic of her - haha!

The eating will be quite and adjustment! With Luna boycotting all feeders while gravid (which she is again!!) and the T's not eating much I will have to be sure I always have enough crickets on hand. I finally did get a bunch of discoids, which neither she nor Tasha will eat. I have put a couple in with my rosehair (nonama ) and I THINK she ate them - or they have burrowed well. So I will be glad when my bd gets big enough to eat them or one of the girls has babies so I have some small enough

...ok, I know this isn't the beardie forum but since we all seem to be in cyberspace together right now...I have been advised to feed him in a separate container. Should I just put in a bunch of crickets and some of his veggies? I have to go otu for an appointment and figured I would try to get him to eat when I come back. Suggestions?

btw, I posted this on the bd forum, too so you can reply there so we don't get booted for too much OT!! ;-/

What a cute little beardie, will Luna ever get jealous.... : )

lele Apr 08, 2005 10:31 AM

Nah, she is still my baby She is gravid (again!) so getting lots of attention - the usual: showers, NCg and repta-aid. I did think about her being neglected (yeah, right!) but I am so devoted to her! It is also why I didn't get another cham, I think that would be more difficult, but the beardie is SO different - and he's a boy so no infertile eggs - whew!
