Ventral scale problem (question)

I have a 13 year old male FL King. He is a steady feeder, no problems at all until about a month ago. Now he does not want to eat at all.

Today I was looking him over and noticed that his ventral scales are cracking, somewhat brittle and off color.

Any ideas what this might be? It is only on the underside. I keep him on newsprint as always. He has an UTH on a rheostat as always. Has his water, and gets to swim in the bathtube every week or so.

I can post pictures later. Just wanted to see if this rang any bells.
