Nephrurus Amyae Female Question...

Ken Bartenfeld Apr 07, 2005 02:18 PM

One of my female Amyae are dying...or something, she is acting WEIRRRD. I can't even explain. Putting her head up in the air, moving her neck oddly, quit eating...had to put a roach in her mouth, and she then bit down and ate it(thank god). Bending her back really awkward, hissing at NOTHING like she is tripping and seeing things...hell, its weird!

If anyone could know, i'm just curios so if one of my others do it I can do somethind about it.

As of now, I took her out of the sand, because she would twist around ever so oddly and open her mouth and get sand in there, so I put her in another rack/tub with no sand. And I am misting in there alot because she seems to drink alot right now...its so sad!

Here is a pic of her, some one have any ideas? She is not sick in the picture...I just wish she was like this again!

Help...Ken

It sounds like she is suffering a reaction to some kind of foreign toxin to me. I had a similar problem with a male Rainbow boa the day I bought it, and the day before the vendor skipped town and moved to FL. It died. My recommendation would be to make sure that nothing is dripping into the tanks. If you have some sort of "pest away" strips or some other insecticide, seven dust, artificially colored mosses or artificially colored sand in the tank, I would remove them and replace with natural substrates. Good luck with her and, hopefully, it it not too late to pull her round.

Nothing like any of that, she died man...really sucks! Sad as hell! And I couldn't do a darn thing to prevent it, the only thing you mentioned was the sand...its artificially(?) red, but its calcium sand and if there is anything else you recommend then so be it. Let me know...one of her babies hatched the day after, here is a pic...
