Is that a crested? It doesnt quite look like it, lack of crests and all. If so, that is certainly a unique looking gecko.

flamedcrestie Apr 07, 2005 03:09 PM

that looks like a cross between a chahuoa and a ciliatus. that's crazy looking.

JackieP Apr 07, 2005 03:56 PM

That's what I thought too....so is it a Chahoua/ciliatus cross then? It certainly looks like one...

did you buy it or produce it? and is it truly a cross between chahoua and ciliatus?

stjpball Apr 08, 2005 07:15 AM

Having never seen a viable chahoua x ciliatus hybrid, I would have to assume thats either a strange looking chahoua or a chahoua x ariculatus blend. Am I right?

it's a chahuoa ciliatus cross according to him which was my first guess. look at the coloration, then look at the goofy partial crests over the eyes, and then there's a bit down the neck as well.

umop_apisdn Apr 08, 2005 07:41 PM

wow...i had no clue that it was possible to cross the species, much less that anyone was successful at it. weeeeeird.

kidcrazee82 Apr 08, 2005 10:22 PM

Yeah it's not usually recommended to invent a new species, such as a hybrid. They're not found in the wild, most people don't think they should exist in some mad scientist's basement either. Oh well...

To let alone the ethics of crossbreeding for a moment, I, knowing little about genitics and the sort was curious of the possibilities of a gecko like that. such as that gecko being rebreed to a normal crested.............bringing that color patern to cresteds? heck what about a gargoyle and crested hybred rebred to a crested in the future creating cresteds that regrow tails etc. i think the possibilties are endless. please post more pics of that animal and info about it!

Yeah currently im trying to breed it with a cilli, the red one in the pic obiously.. to bring out more red coloration and hopefully some larger crests, so it would be 2 to 1 cilliatus to chahoua. I don't believe its wrong i believe its just like breeding anythign else if it's possible it should be explored. Obviously there not being released back into the wild. So i see nothing wrong with it.

P.S. The female laid eggs but outside of the nest box and i couldn't get to them in time it siwerd she dosn't normaly do this so im going to try another nest box in the cage.

i have heard about some of the rhac hybrids. i am getting into cresteds pretty hard core, but from the moment i learned it was possible to hybridize them i resolved to do the chahoua x ciliatus cross.
i know some people find it to be wrong, but i am not one of them. i think the animal looks awsome. post up some pics of the babies when they come!!

hey , that animal is sweet looking, but i dunno , mebbe its just me , but i think they are awesome the way they are. I mean look what happened to boas, u cant find a proven hog island out there like ever. Id hate it to get to that point where u cant even find a regular crested gecko , granted that would be a veeeery long way down the road , but still , this only startd happening w boas a decade or two ago , now look what u have online. Im all for pure , even locality pure ( such as in leachies) animals , and even though they may look cool , thats all this is, n its definately not doing the already small gene pool here in the us any good. but either way , awesome looking gecko. just my 2 cents
