Campina Grande Rainbows were mating this morning.

Jeff Clark Apr 08, 2005 01:54 PM

..I turned the heat up a little higher and they started mating less than a day later. In long blanket boxes they now have a small warm spot at one end at 86 and cool end is at 76. Maybe I have been keeping them too cool?

That's great news Jeff!! looks like there may be a couple of litters this year.
I've been keeping mine with the hot spot closer to 90. My big girl has been camped out in the warm hide for a while now she looks to be gravid. My cool side is in the low 70s and they do spend some time there.

Jeff, I have a trio of Campina Grande, that I put together for the first time in February after cooling for two months. I didn't observe any mating activity at all from the trio, until I increased the temps of my other pythons and boas in adjoining cages. My son spotted it first and drew my attention to it;mating was taking place in the large water bowl in their cage, under the water! We saw this happen a number of times, but did not see any mating taking place anywhere else in the cage. Both of the females are looking promising and we are just keeping our fingers crossed, but have you seen or heard of this happening before?? Eric Davies (UK)

The CGRBs we have in this country all came from the same place and are just 3 years old so this is our first year at attempting to breed them. I cooled my two pairs down and then raised the temps in early Feb. I saw a lot of activity but didn't witness any breedings as we were gone off and on for a month there as there was a death in the family. One female appears to be for sure gravid and the other which I traded off the other day looked to be as well. One thing I did was raise the temps higher then most do for other RBs.

I noticed last year that they seem to like their temps a little warmer then other RBs. When I kept them with a hot spot in the low 80s they would spend a good deal of time camped out on the heat so I raised it to the mid 80s which seemed to make them happier. The hot spot is now around 90 or so and the female sits on it most of the time.

Like you mentioned I've seen mine spend alot of time in the water bowls more so then other RBs I have. Would like to see some photos of yours.

I hope you both do well with those little creatures. I didn't know the significance of the possible offspring. May the god(s) of Anti-Sluggisms treat you both well. It's really cool.
