Night Night

FRAN Apr 08, 2005 11:25 PM

Just obtained a hatchling night snake about 3-4 inches long. I like a challenge and figured this was going to be a challenge since every previous night snake refused any food offerings . I set him up in dry mulch and then the next day figured he would never find a meal in all that mulch to sort through, so put him in a 6 inch deli cup with sand and rocks and a plastic leaf to hide beneath. This morning I put in a few tiny milipeeds, pill bugs, and three anole tails, and he came out and sniffed the tails and went back under the leaf. An hour later I placed a gecko tail and anole tail under the leaf and he ate them both. It worked to my relief.

I love those snakes they remind me a little rattlers without the risk ofcourse. I saw babies few yrs back at a herp expo. How big do they get ?.
I imagine same care of lets say a rosy boa?
Thanks

Hi,

Glad to see that he is doing well. I still do not at all understand why so many people think these are difficult captives. Yours is obviously doing well, and mine is doing well too. Did you get him from Regal? That's where I got mine.
Today, I was relieved when mine ate. When I got him (I think it was some time in December) he ate about 16 rosies the night I got him, and never ate again, and started to get very weak and thin. Today, he ate about 8 rosies and minnows, in addition to his very first pinky mouse, which he swallowed with no problem. These guys actually seem really easy to care for. It is now a wonderful captive, feeding well on pinkies.

Good luck!

I would think they would be difficult if they dont eat for a long time and get weak. I dont know where I heard they could be hard maybe they arent. I dont know.
Now that yours is eating again. Whats the current temp day/night and have you done anything diffeently ?
I know regal carries them here and there and interested in them.
