Update on "shedding jackson's chameleon"

architzel Apr 08, 2005 11:47 PM

Hi again!! Just wanted to give an update to those of you who were so kind as to give me your advice. I was worried about his shedding being normal, his temperature in the cage as well as his water intake and diet requirements. Anyway, I got a nice mister which is very helpful in keeping the humidity above 50%--I got a lower wattage basking bulb..originally it had been recommended for a 75 watt bulb( too hot!!). I went to a 60 watt and Oliver is basking all the time now!! he used to just get somewhere close but not right up under the lamp. I also got a nice light fixture for a UVB bulb and that also makes me feel better. I added mealworms to his diet instead of just crickets--he LOVES them!!!!! So...Oliver is doing very well! his color is good, he has a good appetite, normal activity, he's definitely gaining weight and growing longer! He's also getting better about not freaking as badly when we try to socialize him occassionally. I know he is SICK of me though! Everytime i come into the room where his cage is I talk to him and watch him for a while and typically it's time for water, clean-up and/or feeding. I figure he sees me coming and thinks
"What does this worrisome woman want to do to me NOW!!??".
Anyway, this chameleon business is a busy one but I'm really enjoying Oliver. Thanks for your help!!

Sincerely, Shelley

that sounds great just a note use the mealworms as a snack once and awhile. use silkworms. much better for him.http://www.chameleonparadise.com/
or mulberryfarms has them also. do you have a thermometer. a digital one from radio shack is good. if he is basking all of the time the ambient temp may not be warm enogh.(77)good luck matt
