It's usually brought on by colder temps. If you don't have the right temps in the cage i'd say thats what caused it. Hope this helps.

Lack of good air circulation, dirty cages, viruses spread by mites, internal parasites, being kept to cool AND being kept to hot.

90% of the time RI is from poor husbandary,or what I like to call "generic" husbandary.Every snake is differnt and every snake "needs" something that general populations dont.
BCI thrive on "conservative" regardless of the topic,"conservative" wins out 99% of the time.
Example;
35-40%Humidity
Temps 80-85*
Ambient room temp maintained @ 80-85* year round.
Feed from birth @ 14 days after first year then feed every 21 days till the age of 5 then every 28 days till death.
I have 22 year old 2.4 WC Hog Isles that have never seen a down day in their "long" healthy lives.
Then again I dont follow "generic husbandry" either.
Theres no need to cook your snakes with 90 * temps nor have humidity levels @50-60%
I have plenty of "proof" conservative husbandry leads to long time friends and followiong generic husbandry sheets head toward short term "pets"
It all depends on what your after ?

RI ?? LOL!! not around here !!
