geckos not eating

iamyour_messiah Apr 09, 2005 09:19 AM

Hey,

I have two female geckos which are like both around 9 months old. They are housed seperately cause things didnt go too well when i had them together.

Anyway one of my geckos used to be on sand untill i realised that he sinks into it when he pounced on a cricket, and at the same time ingested a bit of sand always. So I changed that quickly to like slate with a thin layer of sand on it (like....1/6". Problem is at that time I also noticed she had a sorot of bulge on her belly. I thought it might have been an impaction, but she continued eating and defacating properly for the next few months and looked in good shape, so I thought maybe there was nothing to worry about. But just a few days ago (3, i believe) she stopped eating. And I cant get her interested in the food.

My other gecko never had any problems and always ate really well, but she also stopped eating at about the same time. She used to be super shy and would barely even come out of her hide to eat. Now shes out often, and when I open the cage she seems to be only interested in climbing onto my hands (the "door" is on the side ofthe cage, btw), but not eating. If a cricket comes really near to hear she follows it with her eyes sometimes, but then loses interest right away.

Does anyone have any suggestions..? I was thinking that mybe since they are getting older they dont need/want as much food as before, but i dunno..

thanks in advance

Have you been feeding only crickets? Leopard geckos are notorious for getting bored with their food, if that's all their offered. Mine went off crickets so i fed him meal worms and wax worms, now he's bored of those and i've gone back to crickets, which he eats again.
So maybe you could try an new type of food
