Crix chewing through Collard Enclosure vents

fourstrings88 Apr 09, 2005 12:28 PM

hey Everyone

I need some help with crickets that are actually chewing through the screen vents I have and they get out and roam around in my room and I dont want that so I need some suggestions on what to do.I guess they are jumping up there and chewing on it and getting out through the vent slits.

ANY/EVERY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE HELPFUL

THANKS

well you can either put less in the cage so they eat them all, like throw crickets in until they don't seem as interested or you can collect the survivors after a while. it's not good to have extras in the cage because they will eat anything, including biting on the lizards

Is the screen made of synthetic material? Like nylon? If so, replace it with metal screen, also called hardward cloth at the hardware stores. Crickets cannot chew through metal.

Sorry, but I get that problem as well in mesh reptariums, I keep swifts in and chameleons in one. The crickets will evenually leave holes where they have chewed.

Not really anyway to make them stop chewing, so either put them in a bowl of some sort they can get out of and let your lizards eat them in there, or make sure they all have been eaten.

Also IF you think at the end of the day there may be some in there, I sometimes drop a piece of carrot or lettice in the tank at night, and the crickets will congregate around it and eat, instead of your enclosure.

Those crickets are a pain in the butt.... little BUGGERS
