Cages males and female.

Can you keep males and females together at all times or only when you want them to breed. I am going to get get a female this weeked and after keeping them seperated for about 2-3 months I was hoping to stick my female with my male in the 20 gal. tank. But I read/heard somewhere that you only should put them together when you want them to breed. Right or wrong.

It depends really. I thought everything was going fine with Beanie and Pheonix in the same tank. They got along very well, shared hides well, and both got their fair share of food. But I got worried that Pheonix was going to keep mating with Beanie, making her gravid for a longer period of time so I seperated them Now she has laid her 6th clutch (only on egg) so I am worried I was too late in seperating them. I won't put them back together unless it is to breed. It really depends on if the male keeps making advances...I just wanted to look out for Beanie.

So then it wouls probably to be best to keep them separated. My male is 29 grams and I want to get a female or two that are/is about 15-20 grams. SO I know they are to little to breed right now so that is no problem. I aint looking to breed them for a while. Just want to make sure they are nice and healthy and get them heavy. So I believe I am going to buy another 20 gal tank to give them/her plenty of room.

Thanks

As long as they don't stress each other out or fight, it is ok to leave them in together. I keep all my breeders together all year long. You just have to keep an eye on them and if you notice that one of them is losing weight or is being harassed then I would separate them.
If you buy the Leopard Gecko manual, there is a whole section on this subject in there.

Hope this helps
