Tegu Books

AlteredMind99 Apr 09, 2005 09:11 PM

I am going to be moving to a more permanant house soon and im going to be getting a Red Tegu, I had one before for a brief period, but when my ex-fiance and i split. I loved the personality or the red i had before, so i think thats the kind im sticking with.

My question is I want to do a lot more research on Tegus before i get one. I have been looking around online, but websites make me nervous because some of them are very uncredible. Some books are pretty awful too, and i am worried to get one that is useless. I was wondering if you guys could suggest some really good books on Tegu care, Red's in particular, and websites?

Thanks!

There are not really many websites out there for tegus. There are a few books that will give you basic info, but most of these books are a few years or more old. They use old scientific/Latin names and have much out-dated info.

There are some reptile/herp forums that have a tegu forum, this being the one I frequent most. There is my website, www.thetegu.com which is dedicated to tegus. There is Bert's website, www.agamainternational.com and Ron's, www.bluetegu.com. If you are looking for Red tegu info see check out Bennett's site at www.beardiedragon.com. Bennett is also a regular/moderator on thetegu.com so you can post messages to the forum there for him.

Overall, the Argentine Red and the Argentine Black & White are very similar, there seem to be very few differences. The only one that comes to mind at the moment is that the Black & Whites can benefit from eating fruits/veggies, but the Reds require them. Size, Temperament, Housing, etc are all the same for both species.

I hope that answered your questions, if not feel free to message me.

the bad news is its in German. Also, Bert and Hester have put out an interesting video. Check what they have at Agama International.
