As far as I know, they just can handle the acidity of citrus fruits, much like that of a person with an ulcer. I believe the reason it is deadly is because the geckos are so small, with a small liver and stomach, the extra acid is just too much. Stick to bananas!! -Joe

I've been trying to figure out if this applies to all lizards? I see it recommended to avoid citrus with Cresteds and some caresheets for other lizards say avoid it as well. I can't figure out if it's a good practice with all lizards though - anyone know? To be safe I've just been avoiding any citrus fruits with all my lizards.

Citrus fruits are generally not recommended to any fruit eating herps. Even if they can handle the acidity, it will still upset their tummy, which would make them uncomfortable. No one wants to have an uncomfortable herp =)

Thank you - I'll continue to do what I'm doing and stay away from citrus with all of my lizards.
