What's the Best Diet for Maps?

colorfulcritters Apr 10, 2005 05:08 AM

I've got two maps, hatchlings, and just wondering what the best diet is for them. I've raised mostly res's, so this is new territory.

Right now I'm feeding them some clam, chicken, worms, and JBL Gammarus. But I wish to know how to best feed them and how to maintain the optimum environment, since I'm not sure how much they sun.

What you are feeding is fine. Add some greens to the diet. Mine like chicory and dandelion greens. They hit the meat stuff and Reptomin first and then go after the greens so I usually feed the greens first and then add the shrimp, clams, Reptomin whatever -- after they have done a good amount of work on the greens.

Yeah thanks. It's kind of unusual, but I've raised baby res's before and they usually wouldn't eat seafood, or clams. They always started on meat and reptomin.

The maps don't seem to be taking to the JBL Gammarus I have. They've been eating clams, cooked chicken, raw meat, worms and some tuna. I've thrown in some romain lettuce but am not sure if they've eaten any or not. We'll keep at it.

BTW, what kind of terrain, or environment, do maps thrive in compared to res's? Do maps like faster moving water, more rocks?

Pretty much the same as sliders but they can be a little more sensitive to water quality than sliders so it is best to be extra careful to keep things clean for them.
