Time to move outside?

matt43 Apr 10, 2005 08:00 AM

Hey...I have one of those big 'ol preformed ponds -- 165 gallons -- which I've used to house my RES during the winter here in upstate NY. It's been sunny and pleasant here the past few days and looks like it will continue. The forecast calls for a high in the mid 60s this week and a low down to 32. With these temps, would it be ok to move the pond and my adult RES' outside?

Thanks...

I would wait a few more weeks. If your RES had been outside all winter they would probably be fine with those temps, but moving them suddenly from a nice warm house and out into that could cause them to get pneumonia. In a few weeks the danger of frost will be gone and the temps will be near 80 during the day and the turtles will love being out there.

Agreed. You really need to have water temps maintaining themselves at above 65 degrees (night time temps) if they are not conditioned to being out in the cold.
